In Vocational Education and Training there are two primary methods for seeing your existing skills and experienced earned through work and training recognised. These are known as Credit Transfers (CT) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
What is the difference between RPL and CT?
- Recognition of Prior Learning
- You should apply for Recognition of Prior Learning if you feel as though your previous life experiences (such as work experience) amount to competencies you would learn in a training unit. You must be able to prove that you have the skills and knowledge required in these units.
- Credit Transfer
- You should apply for a Credit Transfer if you have completed the same unit previously. From time to time, nationally accredited Units of Competency are updated for improvement purposes. Sometimes when this happens, older units are considered to be 'Not Equivalent' meaning that they are too different to be eligible for a credit transfer.
